This year the kids in room 5 will be practising their spelling through “Making Words” lessons and their personal Word Walls.  These lessons are designed to give children the nuts and bolts of spelling patterns and how letters work together to form the sounds that make up words.  Using the resource: Systematic Sequential Phonics They Use by Patricia M. Cunningham, children will have a chance to put words together, take words apart, substitute beginning sounds to make rhyming words, etc.  Figuring out just what that wacky mystery word is that uses all of the letters of a single lesson is always a lot of fun.
